"You've Really Got a Hold on Me" is one of the group's most covered tunes, a million-selling song and a 1998 Grammy Hall of Fame inductee. The song was a major hit for the Miracles, reaching the Top 10 on the Billboard "Hot 100" pop chart, peaking at #8, and was a #1 smash on the Billboard "R&B Singles" chart during the winter of 1962-63. It was also the group's second single to sell over a million copies, after "Shop Around."
Note:The actual name of the song is often mistakenly written as "YOU Really Got a Hold on Me." However, the major reference books, the halls of fame, the lists of "the greatests," and most of the labels themselves read "YOU'VE." No doubt it's because the group sings the word as "You," eliding over the fricative ending, that it is confusing.
