I'm probably best known as being an undercover police officer infiltrating Millwall football hooligans between 1987 to 1989. This one guy came forward and obviously looked at me because I was the smallest and the youngest clearly and came running towards me to hit me. How do you get into undercover work? I got mentored really young as a young police officer by a really good sergeant. So I was 18. I was 19. He saw something in me within sort of six weeks. And then within 18 months, I was in plain clothes working on a crime squad and got special dispensation to do that. At that point, are you called an undercover officer? No, I was just called a plainclothes officer. And, and as a result of that, it then rolled on and then moved on to working in a, in a fully covert environment at 21.
