In Song (宋) dynasty (960-1279), Cheng Shimei (陈世美) won the 1st seed in the entrance exam for central government officials. Appreciating his abilities, Princess married him.
The truth is Shimei already married Qin Xianglian (秦香莲) at his hometown. Years later, Xianglian and their kids came to Kaifeng (开封), the capital of Song, to find him. To hide the truth, Shimei ordered Han Qi (韩琦) to assassinate Xianglian and the kids. After knowing the truth, Han Qi let them go. Han Qi was forced to suicide for this.
After escaping the assassination, Xianglian files lawsuit against her husband.
Bao Zheng (包拯), or Bao Longtu (包龙图), is the judge of the Supreme Court of Kaifeng.
