This video is published in order to celebrate the 94th Anniversary of Aleksei Nikolayev, born in Moscow on April 24th, 1931.
Aleksei Aleksandrovich Nikolayev (Russian: Алексей Александрович Николаев; ISO-9: Aleksej Aleksandrovič Nikolaev) was born on April 24, 1931 in Moscow. Son of the pianist A. Nikolaev.
Finished historical faculty of MSU in 1953.Finished the Moscow Conservatory in 1956, where he did postgraduate work under Shebalin and was appointed to teach composition in 1959.
Worked from 1959 to 2003, when he died in Moscow on December 28, 2003.
His themes are remarkable for their simplicity and lyrical charm. The fresh and individual harmony is intimately linked with the Russian tradition, though the expressive quality of Nikolayev's work is distinctly contemporary.
